Software as a Service (Saas) Web Design

Crate is a SaaS web application which allows people to collect information and store it in a single place. A person can create text documents, store images, save website links, and collaborate with others.

Problem

Do you want the flexibility to get you professional and personal work done anytime, anywhere you are?

Yet, this often times is easier said than done with the high effort it takes to keep all the notes, links, and images you need to get your work done up to date, organized, and available in a single place.

Solution

I designed workflows to fulfill the following user stories for Crate users:

  • As a user, I want to add and store content including notes, images, and links.
  • As a user, I want to search and view my saved content.
  • As a user, I want to store content in folders to keep my content organized.
  • As a user, I want to create an account and be able to upgrade my account.
  • As a user, I want to share my content with others via email or social media.

Results

The following testing methods were used on the Crate prototype:

  • Scripted moderated testing
  • Peek by UserTesting
  • Nav flow test on UsabilityHub

The most valuable of the three was scripted moderated testing because I was able to interact with the user and hear their reasoning and feedback firsthand. Here’s some of the positive and constructive feedback gathered from testing that was taken as action items to tweak the Crate prototype:

Conclusion

Working on Crate built my foundation of the design process.I learned how to take a holistic approach to design and its discovery, build, and implementation phases by leveraging different techniques to guide me in my solution. Lastly, it was incredibly rewarding working through the challenges of front-end development to make my design live and functional.
